It was in 1996 when we set together with a group of friends talking about work and life in general. The question then come up where to eat delicious Balinese in a safe and comfortable environment. Swiss friends then suggested that myself and my wife Puji should seriously consider to open a Balinese restaurant. At that time I already wrote my first book on Bali’s incredible delicious cuisine and with it the foundation was given.
We then thought for 5 minutes about the challenges of opening our Balinese restaurant and within a few days we found a little piece of empty land just outside Nusa Dua in Tanjung Benoa. Two days later we had a first meeting with our architect and six months later we opened Bumbu Bali, Restaurant & Cooking School.
Never in our remotest dreams we imagined that this little Balinese Restaurant would quickly become blessed with so many countless incredible magical moments. It was always our commitment to do whatever possible to maintain the highest imaginable food and beverage standards to reflect and showcase the amazing delicious variety of Bali’s food flavours our beloved Island has to offers. For the more active culinary traveller we started our cooking classes with market visit; this to introduce the secrets of blending spices and the many flavours for which the island is known for.
